Door repairs we handle
Most door trouble starts with the hinges, the latch or a frame that has moved.
- Doors that stick, drag or won’t latch: hinges, strike plates and planing
- Damaged frames, jambs and casing
- New knobs, levers and deadbolts on existing doors
- Smart locks and video doorbells, battery-powered or on your existing doorbell wiring
- Sliding patio doors: rollers, tracks, handles and locks
- Screen doors: rescreening, closers and latches
- Bifold and closet door tracks, door stops and squeaks
Garage doors aren’t part of our work, since their springs and openers need a garage door specialist.
Need the whole door replaced instead? Our Door Installation page covers new interior, closet and storm doors.
Why doors stick in summer
Wood swells in humid summer air and shrinks again in dry winter heat. A door that rubs in July may close fine by January.
Loose hinges and a shifted strike plate cause plenty of sticking too. A small adjustment there often beats planing wood off the door.
Sliding patio doors
A slider that grinds or jumps its track usually has worn rollers or a dirty, bent track. New rollers and a cleaned, straightened track can make it glide again.
Your handle and lock can change on the same visit.
Locks, deadbolts and smart locks
New knobs, levers and deadbolts fit into existing doors, and we adjust the strike so the latch catches cleanly. Smart locks and video doorbells work too, on batteries or your existing doorbell wiring.
A new doorbell transformer or new wiring is electrical work for a licensed electrician.
Repair or replace?
A solid door in a sound frame is usually worth repairing. A split slab, a rotted bottom or a frame that keeps moving can make a new door the better buy.
When the choice is close, your quote shows both. Feeling drafts around the edges of the door? Weatherstripping and door sweeps can join the same visit.

Your questions, answered
Why does my door stick in summer and not winter?
Humid summer air makes wood swell, and dry winter heat shrinks it again. Tightening loose hinges or moving the strike plate often fixes it without planing. If the door still rubs, we plane only what the fit needs.
Can you fix a sliding patio door that’s hard to open?
Usually, yes. Worn rollers and a dirty or bent track cause most hard-to-slide doors. New rollers and a cleaned track often make it glide again.
Do you replace locks and deadbolts?
Yes, we install new knobs, levers, deadbolts and smart locks on existing doors. We line up the strike so the bolt slides in smoothly.
Do you repair garage doors?
No, we aren’t a garage door company. Their springs and openers need a specialist, so it’s best to call one directly.
Repair or replace: how do you decide?
We look at the slab, the frame and the hardware. A sound door in a square frame usually just needs adjusting or new parts. Splits, rot or a warped slab can make a new door the better choice.
